How do I change the screen size on a Acer 5100 Notebook?

A friend of mine owns a Acer 5100 notebook and her daughter played a video game on it that changed the screen size. It now has black bars running vertically on both sides of the screen. She tried changing the settings in both the control panel & by right clicking on the desktop (properties). By the way, She has Xp.

If your friend has tried both of those things after restarting the computer, then it sounds as if the issue might be with the video driver. She would need to find out what type of video card she is using and obtain the drivers (which can be done through the internet) and re-install them.
